Mariners 8, Scouts 2
Grand Lake broke open a tight game with a late power surge and a decisive eighth-inning rally, beating the Xenia Scouts 8–2 on Tuesday night (June 9, 2026) at Grand Lake.
Early back-and-forth
Xenia struck first in the top of the first. After Cooper Schutte came around to score, Ethan Moore lined an RBI single to right to put the Scouts up 1–0. Grand Lake answered immediately in the bottom half, tying it 1–1 on Huston Dunn's sacrifice fly to center that brought home Matthew Aldridge.
The Scouts regained the lead in the second when Mayo Fernandez scored on Cole Rohlmeier's RBI single (Rohlmeier was thrown out trying to stretch the play), making it 2–1. But the Mariners again responded in their half of the inning: Landon Tiesing singled in Noah Drake, and a catching error allowed Tiesing to take an extra base, tying the game 2–2.
From there, both teams were quiet for several innings as the bullpens settled in.
The turning point: seventh and eighth innings
The game flipped in the bottom of the seventh. With Aldridge aboard, Luke Wildes launched a two-run homer to right-center to give Grand Lake its first clear edge, 4–2.
Grand Lake then buried the game in the eighth, taking advantage of traffic and timely hitting. Tiesing drove in another run on a fielder's choice to make it 5–2, and Brandt Kendall followed with a two-run single to center in a four-run inning that pushed the margin to 8–2.
Pitching summary
Xenia starter Jaydon Geraci battled through 3.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits but issuing 5 walks. Ryan Redding kept the Scouts close into the middle innings, but Wildes' homer came during his 3.0-inning stint as Grand Lake began to pull away. The Scouts' staff finished with 9 walks, a major factor in the late separation.
For Grand Lake, Jackson Murcer went 3.0 innings and allowed both Xenia runs. The Mariners' bullpen took over from there and slammed the door: Landon Nichols (2.0 scoreless), Alex Dues (2.0 scoreless, win to move to 2–0), and Elias Alvarado (2.0 scoreless) combined to hold Xenia scoreless over the final six innings while striking out eight of the nine total Ks recorded by Grand Lake pitching.
