Mariners 14, Clippers 2
Mariners bury Clippers early, cruise to 14–2 win at Marsh Field
MUSKEGON, Mich. (June 14, 2026) — Grand Lake put the game out of reach before Muskegon could settle in, erupting for six runs in the first inning and rolling to a 14–2 victory over the Clippers at Marsh Field.
Grand Lake (now 8–1) scored in five of the first six innings and leaned on a patient, punishing approach: 13 walks, two hit batters, and timely extra-base damage. Muskegon fell to 4–5, undone by early command issues and two errors that extended innings.
First inning avalanche sets the tone
The Mariners' opening frame was less about loud contact and more about relentless pressure. Muskegon starter Jack Perry recorded just two outs while issuing six walks, and Grand Lake cashed them in:
- RBI walks by Brandt Kendall, Landon Tiesing, and Maalik Perkins
- A wild pitch that brought home another run
- A two-run single from Matthew Aldridge to cap the 6–0 inning
Muskegon briefly answered when Justin St. Antoine launched a solo homer in the bottom of the first to make it 6–1, but the Clippers never got closer.
Grand Lake keeps adding on
The Mariners continued to stack runs with a mix of situational offense and power:
- 2nd inning: Kendall doubled in a run (7–1)
- 4th inning: another wild pitch run, plus an RBI walk by Solomon Harwood and Kendall's sac fly (10–1)
- 5th inning: a solo shot (listed in the scoring summary as Maalik Perkins) and an RBI hit-by-pitch to Kendall (12–2)
- 6th inning: a two-run homer by Parker Vaughn pushed it to 14–2
Standout performers
Grand Lake
- Matthew Aldridge: 2-for-5, 3 runs, 3 RBI, including the early two-run single (and credited with a homer in the batting summary)
- Solomon Harwood: reached base 4 times (1 hit, 3 walks), scored 3 runs
- Marek Bolson: 1-for-3 with 3 RBI
- Landon Tiesing: drove in 3 (via walks/pressure situations), part of the constant traffic on the bases
- Team total: 14 runs on 8 hits, fueled by 13 walks
Muskegon
- Justin St. Antoine: accounted for half the scoring with a solo HR (and is credited with another homer in the scoring log)
- Jonnie Gifford: 2-for-3 with a solo HR
- Despite 7 hits, the Clippers struck out 9 times and left limited sustained rallies.
On the mound
Grand Lake starter Cournell Bennett McCoy earned the win, going 5.0 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts. Kaden Plank finished it off with 2 scoreless innings and 3 Ks, keeping Muskegon quiet late.
For Muskegon, the game turned immediately on Perry's abbreviated start (0.2 IP, 6 ER, 6 BB). The bullpen stabilized at times, but the early deficit and continued free passes were too much to overcome.
