Mariners 15, Monarchs 4
Grand Lake Mariners brought their bats to Grosse Ile HS Stadium on Thursday night, rolling past the Michigan Monarchs 15–4 and handing the Monarchs (12–5) one of their roughest outings of the season. The Mariners improved to 12-5 behind five home runs, a six-walk attack, and a bullpen that shut the door after a brief midgame push from Michigan.
Early jabs, then a Mariners avalanche
The game started with immediate fireworks. Grand Lake struck first in the top of the 1st when Parker Vaughn launched a solo homer to center to make it 1–0. Michigan answered right back in the bottom half as Sean Fox singled home Tyler Bruggeman to tie it 1–1.
That was as close as it would stay. In the 2nd inning, Grand Lake blew the game open with a five-run frame. Huston Dunn ripped a two-run double, and Matthew Aldridge followed with a three-run homer to center, pushing the Mariners in front 6–1.
Grand Lake kept piling on in the 3rd. Maalik Perkins delivered a two-run single (both runs unearned) to extend the lead to 8–1, taking advantage of Michigan's lone error of the night (charged to JJ Fontana).
Monarchs' brief response
Michigan's best counterpunch came in the bottom of the 3rd when Justin Thomas doubled to center for two RBIs, trimming the deficit to 8–3. But the Mariners immediately answered again: an RBI groundout from Noah Drake and an RBI single from Solomon Harwood in the 4th made it 10–3 and restored full control.
Power finishes it off
From there, Grand Lake's power took over late. Matthew Hutchinson homered in the 6th, and the Mariners added another run in the 7th on Sean Krueckeberg's sacrifice fly. Michigan scratched across one more in the 7th on Fontana's RBI single, but that only made it 12–4.
The 9th inning turned the game into a rout: Aldridge hit his second homer of the night, and Hutchinson followed with a two-run blast—Grand Lake's fifth home run—closing the scoring at 15–4.
