Mariners 10, Joes 4

Grand Lake Mariners broke open a scoreless game with a steady stream of extra-base damage and timely contact, rolling past the Hamilton Joes 10-4 on July 23, 2026 at Grand Lake.

For three innings, neither side scored as Hamilton starter Eli Wagner and a Mariners bullpen-by-committee kept traffic from turning into runs. Hamilton had early chances thanks to five total walks on the night, but Grand Lake's defense helped erase threats, including multiple double plays.

The game turned in the bottom of the fourth. With runners on, Matthew Hutchinson lined a single down the left-field line that drove in two runs. Hutchinson was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double, but the damage was done as Grand Lake took a 2-0 lead.

Grand Lake added on in the fifth with its biggest swing of the night. Catcher Solomon Harwood launched a two-run homer to left to make it 4-0, and CJ Filipek followed later in the inning with an RBI double to center to push the margin to 5-0. Wagner was charged with five earned runs over five innings, allowing four hits and a homer while also hitting two batters and uncorking a wild pitch.

Hamilton finally answered in the sixth, using patience to climb back into the game. Brady Bowen scored on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Noah Kubasky, and Preston Zumwalt ripped a two-run double to center to cut the deficit to 5-3. That was as close as the Joes would get.

Grand Lake immediately responded in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Forrest Day, restoring a three-run cushion at 6-3. The Mariners then put the game away in the seventh with a three-run inning: Filipek delivered an RBI single, Huston Dunn added a sacrifice fly, and Hutchinson capped it with an RBI double to make it 9-3.

Hamilton scratched across a run in the eighth when Zumwalt grounded into a double play that still allowed Owen McKoon to score, but Grand Lake answered again in the bottom half when a wild pitch brought home Maalik Perkins for the final 10-4 margin.

Hutchinson led the Mariners' offense with three hits and three RBIs, while Filipek went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Harwood added the two-run homer and finished with two RBIs. For Hamilton, McKoon reached three times (2-for-3 with a walk) and scored twice, and Zumwalt drove in two with his sixth-inning double.

On the mound, Kaden Plank earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief, helping stabilize the middle of the game after Tanner Wendel's two-inning start. Hamilton's bullpen couldn't hold the line: Trayce Mercer was tagged for four runs in 1 2/3 innings as Grand Lake's seventh-inning surge decided it.
